Get The Facts
Billionaires, big corporations, and Trump donors are lying about Ada Briceño. They have spent over $9 MILLION against her — because they know Ada will fight for working families, not special interests, as our next Assemblymember.
Throughout her career, Ada has stood up to big corporations, billionaires, and MAGA extremists, so it’s no wonder they are willing to lie and cheat in order to defeat her.
-
As a labor leader, Ada has fought for higher wages and safer workplaces and passed laws protecting workers from sexual assault and human trafficking — that’s why big hotel companies and crypto billionaires who want to abolish unions are attacking her.
-
As a champion for working families, Ada has fought to lower the cost of rent, hold abusive landlords accountable, and pass common-sense regulations for short-term rentals — that’s why the California Apartment Association and Airbnb are attacking her.
-
As a former Planned Parenthood board member, Ada has defended access to abortion and reproductive healthcare.
-
And as Democratic Party Chair, Ada has helped lead the fight against Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans who threaten our communities and worked to turn Orange County blue.
Don't believe the lies! Get the facts below.
Lie: Trump’s allies claim Briceño raised union member dues, then gave herself a raise.
TRUTH: After Ada became co-president of her union nearly a decade ago, the union and their members adjusted her salary to ensure gender equity - that is the “raise” the attacks refer to. Over the last decade, all of the union’s employees have received cost-of-living increases as inflation has skyrocketed. Still, as co-president of her union, Ada’s annual salary is less than 1% of what the executives at the big corporations attacking her make every year.
LIE: Trump’s allies claim a jury found Briceño’s union guilty of discrimination and illegal firing.
TRUTH: When Ada was elected president of UNITE HERE Local 681 back in 2001, there was a struggle to reform the union, and a group of members who did not want the union to be led by a Latina filed a frivolous lawsuit claiming “reverse racism” — arguing that they were somehow harmed by Ada and other union members speaking Spanish and chanting “Sí, se puede” in the union office.
LIE: Trump’s allies claim Briceño used union money to benefit her own family.
TRUTH: Ada met her ex-husband through UNITE HERE, and he is the president of another union local. When her ex-husband’s local sent extra staff to help Ada’s local, they were reimbursed for the staff’s time. Throughout her career, Ada has always recused herself from financial decisions involving potential conflicts of interest.
LIE: Trump’s allies claim Briceño is a “toxic boss.”
TRUTH: In 2004, a group of members who did not want the union to be led by a Latina left the union and made baseless accusations in an attempt to tarnish Ada’s reputation. Later, in 2019, when Ada served as board chair of OCCORD, a group of employees resigned because they believed the organization was too focused on labor issues.
Since 2001, Ada has been re-elected president, secretary-treasurer, and then co-president by an overwhelming majority of her union members every three years, affirming their confidence in her leadership. Hundreds of current and former union members and employees are currently volunteering for Ada’s campaign for State Assembly. Her journey in leadership — from hotel desk clerk to leading her union to serving as the first immigrant to chair the Democratic Party of Orange County — reflects Ada’s ability to bring people together around shared values, fight for justice, and deliver real results for working families.
Lie: Trump's allies claim Briceño supported allowing unionized hotels to pay workers less than minimum wage to make the union a “low-cost” option for businesses.
TRUTH: Under Ada’s leadership, UNITE HERE Local 11 has secured higher wages and better benefits for their members across Southern California and fought to raise the minimum wage in cities across the region. Her union has pushed efforts to increase the minimum wage for hotel workers and workers, and has been at the forefront of the fight for higher worker wages.
